Do I actually need therapy?
Generally most people would benefit from speaking to a therapist from time to time whether they feel that they have significant issues or not. My clients include people with specific concerns that they are working to resolve and others who feel happy and grounded but appreciate speaking confidentially to someone who isn’t in their social circle. Please get in touch so you can find out about the process and then decide if therapy is for you, there is no obligation.
How much does therapy cost?
No-one likes talking about money so I keep my fees fair and transparent. You can see the costs of therapy here.
How many sessions will I need?
Sessions are based on individual need, some of my clients require a session or two and others will stay with me for a long time. This will be discussed at the start of our counselling relationship so you always know where we are at, and it isn’t set in stone. I also offer a Client Well-Being Club for previous clients who can get in touch on a regular basis to maintain an element of support. This club is also available for clients who have not had counselling.
Is it confidential?
The foundation of any non-judgemental therapy relationship is confidentiality. The discussions that we have in our sessions remain strictly between us. I may ask your permission to share some relevant information with other professionals if I refer you to specialist support but this is always your decision. I follow the NCPS Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professionals which demands confidentiality but as explained in our initial contract there are limitations to the confidentiality, As your counsellor I am legally bound to report certain things if they come up, mainly if I have concerns for your well-being. In these circumstances it would be discussed with you, there are other exceptions but all are clearly stated in the contract we have between us. It is nothing to worry about. I have a Confidentiality Policy which is available upon request.
Can I bring a friend?
Your sessions are for your benefit and to be effective they must allow you to speak with honesty and without fear of repercussion, for this reason guests are not invited into the therapy space with you. However, please raise any concerns or needs around this as occasional exceptions could be made. If we hold sessions online then I have less ability to ensure that your are on your own, however I would advise you to avoid others being in the room with you. It increases the ability for you to talk openly without the fear of concerning or offending others.
I can’t get to you, can we chat online?
Of course. Recent world events have opened many people’s eyes to the possibilities of online professional relationships and I am pleased to work with clients in this way. I work hard to ensure that my clients receive the same high standards of support however we interact, I have extensive experience in providing online and telephone therapy to maintain the effectiveness of my skills in this area.
What happens after Therapy?
You may feel a little lost when you finish therapy. The safety net you have had under you whilst in therapy has gone. I offer a client well being club which can help you after therapy if you choose. There is a link to it on the home page where you can find out more. For a small fee it enables you have extra support from me after you finish your sessions. Using the tools you will learn in therapy, you may be able to lean on family or friends for gentle support. We can discuss your options when we talk about ending sessions.
